Vikings Win Tournament Title (2016-12-30 13:28:28)

VALDESE, NC - The Avery High girl's basketball team nailed down the Wildcat Christmas Invitational title Thursday night with an 85-55 win over the host school, Draughn, in the championship game.

The Vikings (9-2) broke the game open with 30 points in the second half, turing a 13-12 first-quarter lead into a 43-28 advantage at halftime. The Vikings shot 52 percent from the floor and 40 percent from the three-point line.

Heaven Nelson paced the Vikings with a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds. Kesha Garland had 10 points and six rebounds, Charity Ollis had 10 points, five assists and four steals, and Kayla Heaton had six points and seven rebounds.
