Watauga County Commissioners Meet, Newly Elected Members Sworn In (2016-12-05 15:12:18)

The Watauga County Commissioners met Tuesday morning and the newly elected and reelected commissioners were sworn in.

John Welch and Perry Yates were reelected in November, and Larry Turnbow was elected to his first term as county commissioner.


After the swearing in, the new commission elected John Welch as Commission Chairman and Billy Kennedy was elected as Vice Chair.  The new commission also named the law firm of DiSanti, Watson, Capua, Wilson and Garrett as county attorneys.

 After the election of officers and staff appointment, the commissioners approved acceptance of a Governor’s Crime Commission Grant for new equipment for the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, heard proposed changes to the Watauga Tourism Development Authority bylaws, accepted the Chestnut Ridge Middle Fork Greenway Easement, and heard the annual report from the Project on Aging.

The Commissioners next meeting is December 20th at 5:30pm. The regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday January 3rd was cancelled, making the first Commissioners meeting of the new year on January 17th, also at 5:30.
