Former Boone Resident John Brubaker Dead At 67 (2016-12-06 14:03:46)

Long time Boone resident and banking professional John Brubaker has passed away.

A resident of Sunset Beach, Brubaker died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia, North Carolina.

John Brubaker was the Former President and CEO of High Country Bank in Boone, NC, which he helped found in 1998. He was also the chief lending officer at Parkway Bank in Lenoir.

Brubaker had more than 40 years of banking industry experience. When High Country Bank was later acquired by Yadkin Valley Bank, he served as Regional President for bank operations in Watauga and Avery Counties, and as President of Main Street Investments, a subsidiary of the bank. Previously, Brubaker served as Senior Vice President for Centura Bank and Nationsbank. Earlier in his career, Brubaker was City Executive and Vice President with North Carolina National Bank (NCNB) and a former Dean of the NC School of Banking for the NC Bankers Association.

John was a Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Board Member, Past President of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and Boone Sunrise Rotary Club; Past Chair of the Watauga Economic Commission and Watauga County United Way; Past Board of Directors Member and Treasurer of the Watauga Arts Council; and Past Board of Directors Member of the Watauga Education Committee.

A memorial service for John Brubaker will be held this Friday December 9, at 2:00 o’clock at First Baptist Church of Boone.  Brubaker was 67.
