Ruth Barnett Bargerstock (2018-06-21 15:31:26)

Devoted mother and a friend to many, Ruth Barnett Bargerstock, aged 94, passed away from natural causes on June 20, 2018 at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation.

A resident of Boone, NC since 2008, she was born in Robertsdale, Pennsylvania on December 29th, 1923, but grew up in Johnstown, PA and graduated from Johnstown High School in 1940. She received her bachelor’s degree and education certification at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA where she met her future husband Charles Bargerstock. They married in 1943 and raised three children.

For 30 years, Ruth taught Home Economics and Special Education in the Pennsylvania public schools where she is remembered for her dedication to making a difference and for generously providing special support to individual students at difficult times. Ruth played violin as a young adult, performing for a few years in the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra. She made sure that her children all had musical lessons growing up and that they developed an appreciation for fine music. She was an expert seamstress, tailoring suits for herself and her family, as well as designing drapery and slipcovers for her home. Her love of sewing kept her busy at the sewing machine up until her final years, making repairs and altering clothing for friends and family. Her fine culinary skills were also highly appreciated and her dinner parties were perfection. After retirement, she took the opportunity to travel the world, visiting Europe, the Caribbean, Nepal, India, China, Southeast Asia, Great Britain, and Greece. She lived a full life, giving her heart sincerely to everyone she met.

Preceding her in death is her husband Charles, her mother, Mary Davis Barnett Price and her sister, Helen Barnett White. Ruth is survived by her three children, Charles T. Bargerstock of Deep Gap NC, Andrew S. Bargerstock (wife Elizabeth) of Fairfield Iowa, and Nancy E. Bargerstock (husband Gregory Simmons) of Boone NC, two granddaughters, Caroline Moretz (husband Derek) and Cameron Mullenneaux (husband Emanuel) and two great grandchildren, Olivia Cole Moretz and Leland Syan Moretz.
