State Bill Proposes New Deep Gap Overpass Be Named After Dillon Baldridge (2018-06-20 15:59:36)

State legislators have introduced a bill that would name the future U.S. 221/U.S. 421 overpass in Deep Gap as the “Sgt. Dillon C. Baldridge Bridge.”

The Watauga Democrat reports that the provision is included in N.C. Senate Bill 335, a technical budget corrections bill, passed last week. The bill had not yet been signed by Gov. Roy Cooper as of Tuesday afternoon. Cooper has 10 days to sign or veto the bill.

Baldridge, 22, of Youngsville, who had family in West Jefferson and Boone, was one of three service members killed on June 10, 2017, in Peka Valley, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan during Operations Freedom’s Sentinel during a Taliban attack.
