A Tennessee woman has been indicted in the death of a Boone man last summer.

The Watauga Democrat reports Makala O’Brien, age 19, of Trade, was indicted by the grand jury on charges of felony death by a motor vehicle, felony hit and run causing serious injury/death, driving after consuming under 21 and DWI.

According to the report, the charges stem from the August 5, 2017 death of Adam Greer of Boone. O'brien, who was 18 at the time, was driving on Higway 105 South and allegedly struck Greer and Timothy Watson, also of Boone, while they were walking along the highway near Rock Crusher Hill, returning home from a party.

According to the report, Highway Patrol Trooper M.S. Drake declared Greer dead at the scene; Watson was later admitted to hospital with head injuries.

O'brien, her 15 year old passenger, Greer and Watson were all reportedly at the same party near Banner Elk.

According to Trooper Drake, O'brien allegedly veered off the road, struck the two men, and fled the scene. O'brien was arrested sometime later and tested over the legal alcohol limit.

O’Brien is scheduled for a July 2 administrative court date. District Attorney Seth Banks said his office can move forward with a trial date afterwards.
