Despite Recent Rains, Drought Continues (2016-12-02 13:22:53)

Despite recent rains, there has been little change in the North Carolina Drought Monitor map.

Avery Burke, Caldwell, Mitchell and Watauga Counties are among 8 that are still listed in severe drought. McDowell County and 8 others south and west are in extreme drought.

Six counties in the southwest corner of the state are in exceptional drought. To the north, Ashe and Alleghany County are listed in moderate drought.

In Watauga County, unofficial rainfall amounts ranged from just under an inch and a half to as much as 3.8 inches in the Rutherwood area.
In Ashe County, amounts ranged from just over 1 inch in Jefferson to more than three and a half near Deep Gap.
