Mast Store Donates Coats To Watauga School Students (2016-12-05 12:14:25)

Winter in the High Country can be volatile — and even if we find ourselves temporarily bereft of snow and ice, you can bet on it, the season is bound to bring frigid temperatures to Watauga County.

For some local families who are unable to afford the gear that can help to brave such weather, winter can bring an even greater burden.

This week, Mast General Store, in collaboration with vendor partner Columbia Sportswear, helped to fill that void by donating more than 200 winter coats to Watauga County Schools to be distributed to students in need.

WCS Superintendent Scott Elliott said that Mast’s donation — as well as being an invaluable service to local students — was a mark of the company’s sincere commitment to the High Country.

“Mast continues to be a very positive partner for Watauga County Schools,” Elliott said. “We cannot thank them enough for this donation. Their continual efforts to help provide for local students in need is a credit to their dedication to this community, and to their lasting commitment to charity."

The coats will be distributed to each school and given out based on student need.
