Some Accumulating Snow Fell Across The High Peaks Sunday (2016-12-05 13:04:53)

Along with some more much needed rain over the weekend came the first accumulating snow of the season.

Grandfather Mountain reported about an inch and a half of snow Sunday morning, and similar amounts across the higher mountains including Beech Mountain.

Social media was full of pictures of the snow. Lower elevations mainly saw snowflakes mixed with rain, and some higher areas received a good dusting.

There is more rain in the forecast for Tuesday, but by the end of the week, the coldest air of the season so far will move into the southeast, and will bring overnight lows in the middle teens for Thursday and Friday night, and highs on Friday in the 20s.

The blast of cold will be brief. By Saturday, temperatures will rebound into the 30s daytime, and another chance of rain moving in by Sunday.
