AppOrtho Using Robotics For Surgery Assistance (2018-12-12 16:21:29)

AppOrtho is using the High Country’s first robot-assisted surgery system to help with knee replacement surgeries.

The Watauga Democrat reports Appalachian Regional Healthcare System purchased the NAVIO Surgical System, which is a large computer that allows doctors to attach trackers to a patient.

According to the report, the trackers allow doctors to map a patient’s joints in 3D, which helps create a plan in the operating room.

The computer is also used to help implant the device with a real-time monitor system.

The system is mostly used for partial knee replacements, but can also be used for total knee replacements.
