ASU Proposes Fee Increases For Next School Year (2018-12-12 16:27:30)

Appalachian State University leaders proposed a fee increase of 3 percent for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Watauga Democrat reports the increase is needed for additional funding, because the state currently requires that tuition costs at ASU must remain the same.

According to the report, the proposed increase includes a $23 rise in athletics fees, a $54 rise in total debt service fees, a $10 rise in student activity fees and a $3 rise in cultural affairs fees.

The increases would supply an extra estimated $200,000 for scholarship funding, $100,000 for sports medicine investments, as well as various other needs.

The proposal will go to the UNC Board of Governors for final approval in March.
