Blowing Rock's Betty Pitts Passes Away (2018-06-07 15:25:30)

Betty Pitts, well-known Blowing Rock volunteer and columnist, passed away Sunday June 3rd.

The Watauga Democrat reports Betty Pitts, along with her late husband Hayden, who was a mayor of Blowing Rock for many years, helped found the Blowing Rock Rescue Squad in the 70s.

Betty was a tireless volunteer and fundraiser for Blowing Rock Hospital, served with Watauga County Hospice, and wrote "The Quiet Corner" column in The Blowing Rocket Newspaper for many years.

Earlier this year she was awarded the Jerry Burns Ambassadorial Award from the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.

Betty Pitts was 88.
