Blowing Rock Raises Taxes, Water Rates In Proposed Budget (2018-06-08 15:27:32)

The Town of Blowing Rock presented its 2018-19 budget Tuesday June 5th.

The Watauga Democrat reports the budget includes funding for a full time school resource officer, a tax increase and funding for capital projects.

The budget includes a tax increase of one cent per $100 dollars valuation to pay for bond service, an increase in minimum water rates, from $44 dollars to $45, and an increase of seventy-five cents per thousand gallons, moving from $5.75 to $6.00.

It also contains a 2.1 percent pay increase for town employees.

Also included in the budget is funding for a new bridge over Glenn Burney Trail, enhancements for Park Avenue, Sunset Drive improvements, and water-plant repairs.

Monies are also directed toward the Middle Fork Greenway, Moses Cone Manor, Memorial Park and an AppalCART trial route.

Council will vote on the budget Tuesday June 12th.
