Despite Rain, Burning Ban Still In Effect (2016-11-30 14:42:36)

Despite much needed recent rains, the statewide burning ban is still in effect.

Although the area received over 2 inches rain from Monday night into Tuesday, and more rain expected today, the burning ban is still in place.

Taylor Marsh, Watauga County Assistant Fire Marshal, says there have been several calls about people burning brush with the recent rain. Marsh reminds the public is urged to remember the burning ban remains in effect until further notice.

The burning ban went into effect early in November and bans outdoor open flames and cancelled all burning permits.

As of November 24th, the North Carolina Drought Monitor shows Watauga and Avery Counties in Severe Drought, with Ashe County listed in Moderate Drought.
