Watauga High Principal Marshall Gasperson Takes Medical Leave Of Absence (2016-11-29 15:01:35)

Watauga County Schools officials say Watauga High School Principal Marshall Gasperson has requested and been granted a medical leave of absence effective November 23rd.

Watauga County School Superintendent Scott Elliott said in a statement that effective immediately, Dr. Wayne Eberle, Watauga County Schools Director of Accountability and School Improvement, will be assigned as lead administrator at the high school until further notice. Eberle has extensive administrative experience both as principal of Valle Crucis School, and in a number of other roles in the central office.

The Watauga Democrat is reporting that North Carolina court records show Jerry Marshall Gasperson II, age 51, of 1230 Orchard Road, Deep Gap, was stopped by the State Highway Patrol on Tuesday, November 22nd.
Records indicate he received a citation for driving while impaired, but the case was disposed of on the same day due to "no probable cause."
Court records also show that Gasperson was charged with possession of an open container in the passenger area of a vehicle, an infraction, that was also dismissed by the district attorney's office on November 23rd.
Gasperson was also cited for failure to burn headlamps.

According to the Watauga Democrat, District Attorney Seth Banks said Gasperson's attorney appeared before an assistant DA Nov. 23 and requested the open container infraction be dropped if Gasperson pled guilty to the headlights infraction. Banks said his assistant DA was not made aware of the initial DWI, and said a finding of no probable cause would have been determined by a magistrate and not by the district attorney's office.
