Watauga Issues State Of Emergency (2018-12-09 00:38:36)

Watauga County officials have issued a state of emergency ahead of Winter Storm Diego.

The state of emergency went into effect at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Watauga Democrat reports Watauga Fire Marshal Taylor Marsh indicated the state of emergency there were currently no restrictions in place and that the declaration was made to meet FEMA requirements in the case their are storm damages. Watauga Emergency Management and other local officials will monitor conditions as the storm develops and may announce restrictions if conditions warrant them. According to the state of emergency declaration, restrictions could possibly include evacuation, curfews, restricted access, business operations and restrictions on alcohol, dangerous weapons and gasoline or other items deemed necessary.
