Lenoir-Rhyne Men's And Women's Swimming Complete First Day Of The Wingate Fall Frenzy

Charlotte, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Swimming Teams ended the first day of competition Friday of the Wingate Fall Frenzy at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

Lenoir-Rhyne is competing against seven other teams: Queens University of Charlotte, Limestone, Gardner-Webb, Wingate, St. Andrews, UNC Asheville and Catawba.

For the Bears, the men's team stands in seventh place with 150 points while the women's team is in sixth place for a total of 116 points.

Queens leads both the men's and women's standings with 600 and 573.5 points, respectively.

In the finals of the men's 500-yard freestyle, Lenoir-Rhyne junior Noah McRea (Hickory, N.C.) placed 14th overall with a time of 4:43.46, taking a minute off his time from the preliminaries (4:44.48).

The second of the three-day meet takes place on Saturday.

Carolina Beats Hawai'i, 83-68

HONOLULU—North Carolina (4-0) had five double-figure scorers and shot well in the second half to pull away and win, 83-68, at Hawai'i (2-2) on Friday night at the Sheriff Center. 

Isaiah Hicks led the way with 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting. Nate Britt hit 3 of 5 three-pointers and scored 13.  Kennedy Meeks also scored 13 while grabbing seven rebounds.  Tony Bradley had his first career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Justin Jackson scored 11.

The Tar Heels shot 63.3 percent (19 for 30) in the second half after struggling in the first half from the floor. Carolina dominated the backboards, holding a 46-23 rebounding edge, a 19-7 advantage in offensive boards and a 28-12 edge in second-chance points. 

Head coach Roy Williams wasn't pleased with the team's 16 turnovers, however.

Guard Joel Berry II struggled, shooting 1 for 9 (0 for 5 on three-pointers) and finishing with a season-low two points.

Carolina hit six of 10 three-point attempts in the second half after going 2 for 11 from long range in the opening half.
