Two Ashe County Inmates Attempt To Escape (2018-12-04 16:04:25)

Two inmates at the Ashe County Detention Center attempted to escape last Thursday.

The Ashe Post and Times reports 23-year-old Wesley Pennington and 28-year-old David Bennett, both of Lansing, tried to run away while being moved from the Ashe County Courthouse back to the detention center.

According to the report, both men were caught almost immediately.

Before this incident, Pennington was being charged with driving with a revoked license, driving left of center, failure to report an accident, exceeding safe speed, first degree burglary, two counts of assaulting a government official, resisting a public officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Bennett was being charged with driving with a revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia and three felony probation violations.

Both men will now have additional charges after trying to escape.

Bennett’s next court appearance is set for December 13th, and Pennington’s is December 20th.
