Peters-Logue named SoCon Wrestler of Week (2016-11-16 17:44:07)
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State 184-pounder David Peters-Logue has been named the Southern Conference wrestler of the week for all competition from Nov. 9-15. The selection is made by the league office.
Peters-Logue, a junior from Hillsborough, North Carolina, went 2-0 at the Mountaineer Duals on the week, helping the Mountaineers (2-0) down Belmont Abbey and No. 15 Oregon State and jump into the national rankings.
After opening his week with a dominating 15-0 technical fall over Belmont Abbey’s Luke Glunt on Saturday, Peters-Logue picked up the signature win of the week against the Beavers later in the day, pinning 12th-ranked Corey Griego in 3:32. The win was App State’s third straight weight-class victory and helped the Mountaineers to the 25-15 team win.
App State moved into the national rankings after the weekend wins, debuting at No. 21 in the Intermat rankings and at No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA poll. The Intermat ranking is the highest in program history.
The weekly award is the first of Peters-Logue’s career.
Appalachian State returns to action Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia.
Also nominated: Jere Heino (Campbell), Neal Richards (VMI) and Justin Lampe (Chattanooga).
