Smoke Clears From High Country Wednesday (2016-11-16 14:33:47)

The High Country will get a break from smoke today.

The North Carolina Air Quality Forecast Center says air quality around the High Country has improved. As of Tuesday evening, there are no High Country counties under an alert. A ridge of high pressure building in from the west will continue to produce predominantly northwesterly wind flow across the region, resulting in smoke primarily blowing southeasterly across the state, and away from the area.

Code Red alerts remain in effect for Caldwell and other counties south and east of the region and on down to Charlotte.
Code Orange alerts are in effect for the southwest corner of the state.
Code Yellow alerts in effect for areas to the east including Winston Salem and Greensboro.

As of Tuesday evening, Acreage of all large fires has now reached over 40,000 acres.
