Boone Police Charge Ashe County Man With Soliciting A Minor Female (2016-11-16 14:45:34)

Boone Police have arrested an Ashe County man for solicitation of a minor female.

On Thursday November 10, 2016, the Boone Police Department concluded an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) operation, resulting in the arrest of Benjamin Lindsey Keely (31 years of age) of West Jefferson, NC.

The Boone Police Department is a member of the North Carolina ICAC Task Force, which is continually engaged in proactive and reactive investigations and prosecutions of persons involved in child abuse and exploitation of children involving the internet.

Keely had arranged a meeting in Boone, with the intent of exchanging money to have a sexual encounter with a minor female. Officers observed Keely travel to the meeting location, approached him and conducted an interview. Keely was then taken into custody prior to having made any physical contact with a minor.

This investigation has led the Boone Police Department to charge Benjamin Lindsey Keely, Ridge Crest Drive, West Jefferson, with Soliciting a Child by Computer and Soliciting Prostitution. Keely was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate, and then turned over to the staff at the Watauga Detention Center. Keely’s court date was set for December 13, 2016, and his conditions of release were set as a $40,000 secured bond. Keely has posted this bond and has been released.
