Wilkes Child Severely Injured By Family's Pit Bull (2016-11-14 13:11:30)

A 2-year-old Wilkes County boy is in critical condition at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem after being attacked by his family’s pit bull dog on Sunday.

On Sunday November 13, 2016, at approximately 12:20pm the Wilkes County Communications Center received a 911 call stating that a child had been attacked by a “pit-bull” dog.

Emergency personnel were dispatched and arrived at the Reedy Branch Road address to find a two year old male suffering with life threatening injuries that appeared to have been inflicted by the family’s dog. The child was transported by Wilkes EMS to Wilkes Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. The child remains in critical condition as of the time of the press release late Sunday afternoon. 

The dog was euthanized by a family member and is in the custody of Wilkes County Animal Control. Disease testing will be conducted on the animal. The Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office along with Wilkes County Animal Control are investigating this incident.
