Boone Chamber Opens Registration For Leadership Challenge (2018-11-28 15:56:06)

The Boone Area Chamber of Commerce has announced registration is now open for the 2019 Watauga Leadership Challenge.

The Watauga Leadership Challenge is an innovative leadership development program designed to meet the community’s need for the active participation of informed and educated leaders. Graduates of WLC programs enjoy lifelong networking opportunities with over 300 program alumni.

“Just about every community has a unique leadership development program and the Watauga Leadership Challenge has served that need for the High Country for several decades,” said Boone Area Chamber of Commerce President/CEO David Jackson. “When Brian Crutchfield developed this program years ago, the idea was to deepen roots for our business leaders in our local community. By adding to our course offerings last year, we can still provide the immersive experience to those that are just getting started on their leadership path. Additionally, we can expand the leadership development offerings to those who have been through the program, or one like it, and continue to build on the skills necessary to help drive their growth as community leaders moving forward.”

Two courses are offered as part of the 2019 Watauga Leadership Challenge:

The Leadership Challenge Class features a series of day-long sessions that combines core leadership development concepts with an immersion into the essential functions of the community. Participants will visit local businesses and hear from area leaders that provide a first-hand look at how leadership skills are implemented in the local economic landscape. Each class session will end with a team-style leadership challenge that wraps around the day’s topic. This course is an ideal fit for participants who are new to the Boone community or seeking career advancement into management roles.

The Leadership Development Class provides more detailed focus on leadership principles. Coursework will cover five key traits of effective leadership while utilizing expert facilitators and panelists to bring real-world examples into each step of the process. This course is open to previous Watauga Leadership Challenge graduates or to those that have completed similar coursework in another community.

Registration forms and master schedules for each class can be found online at https://www.boonechamber.com/news/2019-watauga-leadership-challenge-registration-opens. Seating is limited in both sections and registrations will be processed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Participants who work with businesses who are 2019 Program Partners are eligible for a $100 discount for one registration as a part of their benefits package.
