Watauga Commissioners Hold Special Meeting Wednesday After Boone ETJ Abolished (2016-12-27 14:39:03)

Last week, the Town of Boone's Extra Territorial Jurisdiction authority ended after a December 21st decision by the North Carolina State Supreme Court that found an earlier law passed by the General Assembly was constitutional. As a result, the town has transferred Planning and Zoning Authority from the Town of Boone to Watauga County.

According to a press release, the Town of Boone has transferred to Watauga County all information regarding active planning applications and permits, fire inspections and code enforcement. The Town Of Boone is encouraging all ETJ residents and property owners to attend a Special Called Meeting of the Watauga County Board of Commissioners to obtain the most updated information possible. The special called meeting is Wednesday, December 28th, at 12:30 in the afternoon, in the Commissioners Board Room of the Watauga County Administration Building, 814 West King Street in Boone.

A special meeting of the Boone Town Council will be held Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church, to meet with the Junaluska Community in order to discuss the proposed Watauga County Land Trust project and for dialogue on other issues. The church is located at 161 Church Street in Boone. 

Due to the regular meeting date of the Watauga County Planning Board being on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Watauga County Planning Board has rescheduled their January meeting.  The meeting will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017, at 5:30 P.M. in the Commissioners’ Board Room located in the Watauga County Administration Building at 814 West King Street, Boone, North Carolina. The Town of Boone Community Appearance Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 27, 2016 has been cancelled.  

The Town of Boone Cultural Resources Advisory Board Meeting is set for January 9th at 3:30 pm at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center. Among items on the agenda are an update on Daniel Boone Park Licenses and a review of the Historic Downtown Cemetery Tour.
