James Wilber Cook, age 76, of Wilkesboro, NC, passed away December 22, 2018 at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Cook was born in Surry County, NC on October 15, 1942, to James Flake and Mary Elizabeth Beddingfield Cook. James began work with his father at Cook’s Sporting Goods in 1964. In 1974, James built and opened the West Park location where it remains today. James loved most of all, his beautiful family. He enjoyed snow skiing, riding his Harley, jig-saw puzzles, reading, Shag Dancing, beach music, Tina Turner, Merle Fest and the Tarheels. He especially loved a good joke, helping people, and his church St. Paul’s. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Cook is survived by his wife; Beverly Beshears Cook of Wilkesboro. Son; Mark Beshears Cook, and wife, Lani, of Wilkesboro. Daughter; Kathleen James Cook, and husband, Paul, of Hoboken, NJ. Grand-daughters; Kieran Cook and Maia Cook, of Wilkesboro. Also, his Beloved Black Lab, Steamboat.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilkesboro with Rev. Kedron Nicholson and Deacon Susan Whittington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26th at Miller Funeral Service.
