Beech Mountain To Drill Well (2016-11-11 14:36:46)

The Beech Mountain Town Council has decided to begin digging a potential new well at a site near Grassy Gap Creek Road.

The Watauga Democrat reports that on Tuesday, the council authorized around $14,000 for the project. Under a plan from McGill Associates of Asheville, a best-case scenario would include a three-step process for construction of a well at a cost about $37,000.

The town’s only current source of drinking water comes from Buckeye Lake, which Public Utilities Director Robert Heaton reported was about five feet below spillover. Beech Mountain officials recently announced Stage 3 water restrictions, that prohibit customers from using water to pressure wash exteriors, wash vehicles or water lawns or gardens.
