Avery County Approves Contract For New Pool (2016-11-10 14:08:38)

The Avery County Board of Commissioners approved two major contracts during its regular meeting on Nov. 7, approving Isaacs and Associates to create designs for the swimming pool and Boomerang Design to develop plans for a new agricultural building.

According to the Avery Journal, under the contract with Isaacs and Associates, the county will carry out the design phase for the swimming pool project at a cost of approximately $28,900, to cover the cost of gathering community input, working with local officials to review storm drainage and parking requirements, and preparing three schematic plans to present to the board.

Although the board set aside $1.6 million for the project, the Journal reports that a cover letter from Isaacs and Associates stated that due to rising construction costs, projected price for a new enclosed swimming pool will be approximately $2,300,000.

The board approved the contract by a 3-2 vote and a community input meeting will take place at Tuesday Nov. 29.
