Alvarez Named All-State (2018-11-21 16:50:00)

BOONE - It's been quite a senior year to remember for Watauga High's Jair Alvarez.

Alvarez led the Northwestern Conference in scoring, he was named all-conference and the NWC Player of the Year for his efforts. He was also named to the Region 11 All-Region Team before he capped off his brilliant campaign by being named to the 3A All-State Team.

Alvarez is WHS' first All-State selection in boy's soccer since 2013, when Cam Linville and Logan Raichle were named to the 4A All-State squad.

Alvarez finished his senior year with 26 goals and 65 points. And along with his teammates, they led the Pioneers to a 20-win season (20-6-1) and the school's first conference title in boy's soccer since 2007.

And the Pioneers took it a step further, thanks to Alvarez, who scored the game-winning, Golden Goal in the fourth overtime against Concord. That win vaulted the Pioneers into the third round of the state playoffs---the first time they've gotten that far in postseason play since the 2012 team made it to the 4A Western Regionals.
