CCC&TI Hosts International Movie Screening (2018-11-13 16:04:01)

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute’s Watauga Campus in Boone will host a free screening of the film “The Heart of Nuba” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 in Building W-372, Room 112. The event is open to the public.

The movie is about a courageous American doctor who has been practicing in the Nuba Mountain region of Sudan for more than 10 years. He is the only doctor for more than 750,000 people.

The movie is more than a chronicle of Dr. Tom Catena’s life. It also documents the ongoing brutal attacks on the Nuban people by the Sudanese government.

In addition to the film screening, Ryan Boyette and Jazira Awad from Nuba Mountain, Sudan, will share their story and answer questions following the screening.

Much of the footage of the film was originally shot for their human rights nonprofit Nuba Reports, an organization created to report about the brutal government attacks on the Nuban people.

Boyette and Awad, who personally have experienced the region and issues documented in the film, generously provided the film to CCC&TI for a screening.
