Watauga Schools Seek Control Of Calendars (2018-12-26 15:57:08)

Watauga County Schools are pushing for more school calendar flexibility after missing 11 days from weather before Christmas break.

The Watauga Democrat reports the Board of Education approved the 2019-2020 school calendar at its last meeting, and they also approved a resolution supporting local control of school calendars.

The resolution will be sent to Senator Deanna Ballard, outgoing House Representative Jonathan Jordan and incoming Representative Ray Russell.

Right now, the North Carolina General Assembly has control of setting school calendars.

The law currently prohibits schools from starting before the Monday closest to August 26th or ending after the Friday closest to June 11th.
