A man from West Jefferson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official on October 31st.

The Ashe Post and Times reports that 73-year-old Billy J. Brown held a four-foot metal pipe in a threatening manner toward West Jefferson Police Chief Jeff Rose and another police officer.

According to the report, Brown was released the same day of his arrest under a $15,000 secured bond.

Part of Brown’s release order is that he can’t be within 250 feet of Rose or his property.

Nobody was injured in the incident, and a court date has not yet be set, as the investigation is ongoing.
