WHS Soccer Advances To Second Round..... (2018-11-04 13:16:09)

BOONE - The Watauga High boy's soccer ream didn't waste any time winning its first-round 3A state playoff game Satruday night.

The Pioneers (19-5-1), the No. 5 seed in the 3A Western playoffs, scored four times in the first half and buried Gastonia-Huss 6-1 at Jack Groce Stadium. The win moves WHS into a second-round match up with Concord on Tuesdasy night at home. Concord advanced by beating West Caldwell 5-3 on Saturday.

Jair Alvarez, who led the Northwestern Conference in scoring during the regular season, erupted for three goals in Saturday night's win against Gastonia Huss. Alvarez now has 25 goals on the season. Ruben Nelson complimented Alvarez by picking up three assists.

Jake Ganley, Talib Patrick and Owen Combs also sccored for WHS. Tucker Brown had an assist.
