Man Charged With Stealing Game Controllers And Reselling (2016-09-22 13:48:20)

On September, 10, 2016, Boone Police began an investigation when Wal Mart reported that several video game wireless controllers had been stolen from inside the business. During this investigation, Boone Police Officers learned that more than one of these game controllers had been sold to a business in the same shopping center, Game Stop (Watauga Village Drive, Boone, NC). Both of these businesses captured images of the suspect on video. Officers began to attempt to identify the individual stealing and then selling the game controllers for cash on the video footage.

On September, 12, 2016, Wal Mart employees observed the suspect from this investigation back inside the business. The suspect was with other individuals. The suspect left the business without paying for several items of food. These Wal Mart employees reported this to the Boone Police Department. Master Boone Police Officer Len Hagaman intercepted these suspects as they left the area of Wal Mart. The Boone Police Department Investigations Division were called to assist in this investigation.

Boone Police Officers interviewed the occupants of the vehicle and were able to identify the person responsible for stealing the game controllers and then selling them to Game Stop for cash.

The suspect was identified as Caleb Gabriel Irving. Investigating Officers learned that Irving had an outstanding Warrant for Arrest from Orange County Florida for Burglary.

Police arrested Caleb Gabriel Irving, age 22, of Umstead Drive, Chapel Hill, NC, 27516. Irvin was charged with 1 Count of Felony Larceny, 1 Count of Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense, 1 Count of Misdemeanor Shoplifting. He was lodged in the Watauga County Jail until he posts a $92,000 secure bond.
