Boone Police 4th Annual Food And Funds Drive (2016-12-20 11:48:15)

The Boone Police Department has launched its 4th Annual Holiday Food and Funds Drive.

The drive will continue through Friday, January 13, 2017. The food and funds collected will go to benefit the Hunger and Health Coalition in Boone. For the past 35 years, the Hunger and Health Coalition has collected, organized and distributed food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. Last year, their food pantry helped feed over 30,000 of our neighbors in crisis, and their free pharmacy filled 14,352 prescriptions for people that can’t afford their life saving medications.

The Boone Police Department is hoping to raise more funds this year because the Hunger and Health Coalition can buy $5 worth of food for every $1 donated. This means that monetary gifts can do even more good than actual food donations. Of course, any non-perishable food is gladly accepted.

If any other organizations, groups or individuals would like to join the effort, please contact Lieutenant Chris Hatton with the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6942. All types of donations are being accepted at the Boone Police Department located between the Honda Dealership and the Post Office on Blowing Rock Road.
