North Western Conference Tournament

HICKORY - The tournament is a qualifier for the regional individuals that will be played next Friday the 19th at St. Stephens High School. Players are placed in singles or doubles for the tournament.


Magali Turner was the number two seed and received a bye the first round. She defeated Kristen Ratliff from Alexander Central in the second round 6-2, 6-3. Magali lost a close match to Hickory’s Anna Thorne 4-6, 6-7. Magali has qualified to play singles in the regional tournament. Lauren Templeton won her first round against West Caldwell’s number one singles player. Lauren was
ahead 3-1 and took a forfeit since her opponent did not return to play. Lauren lost to St. Stephen’s number one 6-1, 6-2. Gabrilla Cuevo from St. Stephens who was also the eventual singles champ for the tourney.

The freshman duo of Ellary Maiden and Jillian Russert won their first round 6-2,5-2, default. Maiden and Russert then played the number one seed from Alexander Central and lost 6-4, 6-2. The Alexander Central team won the doubles championship. Maiden and Russert played doubles very well and competed together for the first time this season.

Senior Katie Goode and Junior Carolina Davidson were seeded fourth for doubles and had a bye the first round. For the second round they received a default from Freedom’s doubles team that did not
return for the second round. Goode and Davidson lost to Hickory’s second seeded doubles team 4-6, 2- 6. Goode and Davidson qualified to play doubles in the regional tournament by reaching the
