Boone Town Council Approves Rezoning Request On State Farm Road, Water Intake Bonds (2016-12-16 13:49:55)

The Boone Town Council voted 3-2 to approve rezoning of property on State Farm Road acquired by Farm Bureau Insurance.

The rezoning of 165 State Farm from R1 to B3 would allow the company to replace its current office at 135 State Farm, subject to a site-specific development plan. Council members Jeannine Underdown Collins, Jennifer Teague and Charlotte Mizelle voted to approve the change, Loretta Clawson and Lynn Mason voted against it.

The council also voted 4-1 to approve general obligation and revenue bonds for the water intake project. Council member Loretta Clawson voted against the measure.

In addition, there was a presentation of plans for the Howard Street Project. The project includes changing the intersection at Appalachian Street, relocating power lines into the alley behind businesses that face King Street, sidewalks, bike lanes, as well a parking deck proposed by a developer.

The plans will soon be on display at Town Hall on King Street for pubic inspection. As of now, these plans are not final and are subject to change.
