App State Announces Baseball Recruiting Class for 2018-19

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State baseball coach Kermit Smith on Tuesday officially announced a recruiting class of eight newcomers for the 2018-19 season.

Smith’s second class since his arrival in Boone has, to date, eight high school players from the state of North Carolina. The group includes four players who pitch, one catcher, two middle infielders, three players capable of being outfielders and three players who can contribute at first base.

Six in-state players are from high schools within three hours of Boone, including three players from the Charlotte area.

“This is an outstanding day for our program,” Smith said. “We have been working diligently on this class for 17 months. So many people had a hand in this. From Britt Johnson, our Recruiting Coordinator, to Justin Aspegren, Erik Lunde and Matt Greenhalgh, everybody went above and beyond to identify the talent and develop the relationships needed to secure a great group of young men. It's exciting to sit on the front end of back-to-back recruiting classes and know where we are heading. The foundation is being set for success in the community, in the classroom and on the baseball field. It's a great day to be a Mountaineer!”
