North Wilkesboro Man Charged With Mail Theft (2017-12-20 17:04:45)

The North Wilkesboro Police Department has charged a man with stealing cash and checks from mail while working at the North Wilkesboro Post Office.

The Wilkes Journal Patriot reports Eric McKenzie Curry, age 30, of Fishing Creek Road, North Wilkesboro, is charged with two counts of larceny by an employee and one count each of obtaining property by false pretense, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and possession of cocaine, all felony charges.

According to the report, police say the offenses occurred between Nov. 1 and Dec. 5.

Police say there are over 100 victims and more are expected to step forward.

Police have 288 open envelopes found in Curry's vehicle. Another 44 unopened envelopes were found on Curry’s person or in his vehicle when investigators confronted him on Dec. 5th.

There were $5,100 worth of uncashed checks also seized.

Curry had worked at the North Wilkesboro Post Office for less than a year and is no longer is employed by the U.S. Postal Service.

According to the Journal Patriot, Curry had not yet been arrested as of Wednesday morning.
