A structure fire in Lenoir apparently left one man dead.

The Lenoir Police Department says a fire that involved about 25 percent of a home on Sunset Street around 12:43 Tuesday the 19th was quickly contained and extinguished by firefighters.

Fire personnel found the body of Kenneth Ray Owens, age 61, inside the home.

Lenoir Police Chief R. Scott Brown said in a statement that as a result of the ongoing investigation, the cause of the fire has been attributed to an overloaded surge protector located inside of the residence and has been ruled accidental.

The investigation involved Lenoir Police, the Lenoir Fire Department, and the NC State Bureau of Investigation.
