New Sidewalks, Crosswalk Approved In Jefferson (2018-10-03 15:12:41)

The Jefferson Alderman approved new sidewalks on U.S. 221 and a crosswalk across the interstate in Jefferson.

The Ashe Post and Times reports the total cost of construction for the project is about $11,500. Jefferson alderman approved $2,000 to $2,500 to go toward the project, and the rest of the money will come from the Department of Transportation.

According to the report, the crosswalk will be at the intersection of U.S. 221, Cherry Drive and East Main Street.

Sidewalks will be added to a portion of East Main Street near Hospital Avenue, and at the opposite side of U.S. 221 from Cherry Drive to Government Circle.

Construction is expected to begin in a few years along with the widening of Section E of the U.S. 221 project.
