HICKORY, N.C.  – The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team defeated Tusculum by a final score of 35-10 on Saturday night at Moretz Stadium to run their winning streak to four in a row. The Bears dominated on both sides of the ball and sit atop the league standings at 3-0.

STATS OF THE GAME:
•   Offensively, the Bears didn't lack for standouts in this one. Senior WR T.J. Smith finished the contest with 5 catches for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Smith had two TD's during the 2017 season but now sits with seven this year. Ameen Stevens carried 15 times for 163 yards and a touchdown, including a 73-yard burst. Jaquay Mitchell ran seven times for 106 yards and found the end zone for the fifth straight game.
•   The defensive unit held one of the best rushing teams in the league to just 27 yards rushing on 27 carries. Jordon Shippy, who ran for rushed for 258 yards in his most recent contest, was held to five carries for -5 yards. Also, QB Tommy Pistone completed just 11 of his 36 passes on the evening.
 •   Clayton Horn led the Bears in tackles for the second straight game, racking up 11 to go with 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Sherrod Williams added seven tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack and a pass breakup in the contest.  
•   As a team, LR rushed 55 times for 349 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The 518 yards of total offense marks the first time the Bears topped 500 yards in a game since gaining 503 against Mars Hill in 2015.  
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
•    The Bears have scored over 30 points in all five contests this year. For the season, LR has scored 208 points, already surpassing last year's total of 194 which happened in 10 games.
•    Additionally, the four wins topped the win totals of 2017 and 2016 that saw LR win three each season.  
•    The Bears and Newberry remain as the only undefeated teams in South Atlantic Conference play. However, Newberry has only played one league contest.
•    LR now holds the all-time series over the Pioneers, 12-10.

UP NEXT:
LR will hit the road as they square off with Newberry to see who will be the last unbeaten team remaining. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Newberry.
