Malicious Emails Increase In NC (2018-09-24 15:01:09)

Malicious emails in North Carolina increased by more than 60 percent during the days leading up to the landfall of Hurricane Florence.

The North Carolina Department of Information Technology reports the state saw significant increases in the number of spam and phishing emails, and attempts to send viruses to the state’s network.

According to the report, Cyber Criminals often take advantage of natural disasters to solicit personal information illegally and to take advantage of vulnerable infrastructures, disaster victims and volunteers.

The NCDIT said criminals posing as volunteers or disaster relief agencies will try to cheat you during a disaster, and especially during relief efforts.

Always make sure you are donating to legitimate agencies.
