Bobcats battle but fall in three to Barton

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team put up a tough fight against Barton College Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium, but it ultimately fell in three sets (25-23, 25-19, 26-24). The loss moves LMC's record to 3-11 on the season and 0-1 in conference action.

Set 1 – In the opening set of Saturday's match the Bulldogs got off to a fast start leading 12-7 at one point. After a couple Bobcat points and a LMC attack error, the Bobcats rattled off six straight points to pull in front, 16-13. Barton did not go away, however, as it battled back to tie the score at 20 before scoring five of the last seven points in the stanza to clinch the opening set victory, 25-23.

Set 2 – The second frame proved to be the most lopsided one of the contest. The Bulldog offense started rolling hitting a match-high .419 on 31 attacks on their way to a 25-19 win over Lees-McRae. The accuracy of the Bulldog attackers was also important in the frame as they only committed three errors in the frame.

Set 3 – In what proved to be the final set of the match, the Bobcats and Bulldogs were not separated by much. With the score reading 15-15, the Bobcats went on a 4-0 run to go up 19-15. Like they did in the first, the Bulldogs clawed back to tie the score at 21. The two teams then traded points until the scoreboard read 24-24. Unfortunately for the Bobcat faithful, the Bulldogs clinched Saturday's match with back-to-back kills from Sarah Kirk and Peyton Kendal to finish it off.

Next Up – The Bobcats will be back in action Tuesday night when they play host to Shaw University in a non-conference matchup. First serve for that match is set for 7 p.m.
