The Round Up for the Middle Fork Greenway raised $112,000 during the month of July.

One hundred eighteen businesses in Watauga County participated in the fundraiser by asking their customers to round up their purchase to the next dollar or to give a donation. Mystery Hill made the largest donation at $10,000.

Around the same time as the fundraiser, Watauga County also received a state grant of $430,000 to be put aside for Section 4 of the Greenway, from Tweetsie Railroad to Goldmine Branch Park.

Construction will begin on the Blowing Rock Trailhead this fall, and Section 1 from Shoppes on the Parkway to the Foley Center is targeted to begin construction in 2019. The end project will connect the towns of Boone and Blowing Rock.
