Quick Released, Jones Placed On Waivers.... (2018-09-02 02:44:15)

Two former Appalachian State University wide receivers did not survive the final cuts as National Football League teams trimmed their rosters to 53 players.

Brian Quick, who played at App State from 2007-11, was released by the Washington Redskins on Saturday. Quick was an FCS All-American for the Mountaineers in 2010 and 2011. Quick was taken by the then St. Louis (and now, the Los Angeles) Rams in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the NFL Draft. He played six seasons in the NFL with the Rams and the Redskins.

He caught 110 passes in his career for 1,566 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Jones, who played at App State from 2012-15, was placed on waivers Saturday by the Chicago Bears. Jones was Jones was an All-Conference and All-American player at the FCS level and helped lead the Mountaineers to their first ever bowl game win in 2015.

He went undrafted before he signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. Jones played for the High Country Grizzlies in the National Arena League in 2017. Jones was named offensive rookie of the year in the team's inaugural season. He had a solid season this past summer playing for the Albany Empire of the Arena Football League.

He caught 77 passes for 1,156 yards and 29 TDs.
