West, UNC-Pembroke Come Up Short In Opener.... (2018-09-03 15:18:51)

WINSTON-SALEM - Former Watauga High football player Corey West made his 2018 debut for the University of North Carolina-Pembroke on Sunday in a 23-20 loss to Winston-Salem State at Bowman Gray Stadium.

West, a sophomore, caught three passes for 38 yards in the setback. West has played in 11 career games for the Braves. He played in 10 games last season and caught eight balls for 31 yards and no touchowns.

West finished his high school career with 1,355 career rushing yards (137 carries) and 17 touchdowns, as well as 1,418 career receiving yards (101 receptions) and eight scores. He was an all-conference player his senior year after registering 1,556 yards of total offense, including 896 rushing yards (91 carries) and 13 touchdowns. He also had in 48 receptions that season for 660 yards and 13 scores.

The Braves play Elizabeth City State om their home opener on Saturday at 7 p.m.
