Two Arrested In West Jefferson For Animal Cruelty (2018-12-18 15:58:47)

Two people from West Jefferson were arrested for animal cruelty on December 13th.

The Ashe Post and Times reports 41-year-old Ralph Smith III and 36-year-old Amanda Smith were each charged with two counts of felony cruelty to animals and two counts of felony killing an animal by starvation.

According to the report, animal control was called to a West Jefferson home after neighbors heard the sound of dogs, but hadn’t seen anyone in the home for a long time.

Animal control and local police entered the home to find two dogs dead and two dogs starving and in poor health.

The two living dogs are currently at a vet clinic and are being treated.

Amanda Smith was released the same day of her arrest under a $1,000 secured bond.

Ralph Smith is currently being held at the Ashe County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
