Two Fires Damage Homes In Vilas (2018-12-18 16:04:53)

There were two house fires in Vilas last week.

The Watauga Democrat reports the first fire was at 469 Ward Green Road late Thursday night. According to the report, the renter of the home, Jeanette Pendley, was at home at the time the fire started on her porch.

The flames spread to the covered roof and to the attic, but the fire was controlled in about 40 minutes. Pendley and her three dogs were able to get out of the house safely.

There was heavy fire damage to the front side of the house and to the attic. The interior of the house only had light damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Watauga Democrat reports the second fire in Vilas last week was Friday morning at a home without a physical address on Isaacs Drive.

According to the report, the homeowner was able to escape without injury, but the home is at a total loss after being fully engulfed in flames. The fire took about two hours to control, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
