Gas prices in North Carolina are beginning to drop.

AAA Carolinas reports that most of the state has seen slow, but steady price drops over the last few weeks.

The statewide average is currently $2.66 per gallon, which is three cents down on the week and four cents down on the month.

According to, the average per-gallon gas price in Newland is about $2.74, the Boone average is about $2.72, and the West Jefferson average is about $2.55.

Gas prices are expected to continue to lower, with the switchover to winter-blend gas in September.
