Watauga Commissioners To Hold Public Hearing On Rec Center (2018-08-17 15:45:51)

The Watauga County Board of Commissioners is holding a public hearing about financing Boone’s proposed new recreation center.

The hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21st, in the commissioner’s board room in the Watauga County Administration Building in downtown.

The new recreation center is proposed to be located at the intersection of State Farm Road and Hunting Hills Lane.

The High Country Press reports the initial cost estimate to complete the project is $35 million, and the 2018-2019 budget for the county has more than $15 million set aside to go towards the new recreation center.

According to the report, the plan is to start construction this December, with a completion date of May, 2020.
